Accepted Insurance

_

One of the most common questions that we get at DENTiST @ OAKViLLE is, “Do you accept my insurance?” The answer to that is yes. We do accept most of insurance plans.

What is co-payment?

Co-payment—also called co-insurance—is the portion of the bill that is your own responsibility. It’s the most common way for dental plans to limit their costs, thereby providing various plans with an assortment of benefits and price points for the purchaser to choose.

Some plans are also taking other approaches to limit plan spending: setting annual deductibles, capping the dollar amount or limiting the number of visits covered within a year.

How much do I have to pay?

That depends on your plan.

An 80/20 co-payment is common for basic procedures such as x-rays, cleaning, fillings and root canals. This means that the dental plan covers 80% of the bill. A 50/50 co-payment is common for major procedures such as crowns and bridges.

But there are many variations; be sure to check your specific plan.

Can my dentist waive my co-payment?

No. The waiving of a co-payment is insurance fraud and is against the law. Your dentist could be heavily fined or even lose their license.

When you and your dentist sign the claim form that goes to the insurance company, you are stating which services were provided and how much, in total, was charged. The insurance company pays its share based upon the assumption that you will do the same.

DENTiST @ OAKViLLE is Here to Help!

_

While we don’t know exactly how much your insurance provider will pay for your specific treatment, we are able to call your provider, get a breakdown of insurance benefits, find out what they’ve paid in the past for similar services, and create an estimate for you.

A plan may include specific inclusions and exclusions that we will not know of in advance; therefore, it is important for the patient to understand his/her dental benefits. Benefits discussed with the patient are only estimates. In the event that a patient’s insurance carrier pays under the estimated amount, the patient will be responsible for any remaining balance. Read on for some advice for ensuring that you can take good care of your oral health and keep dental costs in check:

Prioritizing Dental Needs vs. Your Coverage

_

Don’t hesitate to talk to your dentist about financial concerns. If you have limited insurance coverage and don’t want to go too far above that coverage ceiling, your dentist can prioritize your dental work so that it fits your budget and your dental coverage. If you’ve got a limit per year, your dentist can schedule your needs based on that limit and could suggest the most cost effective treatments possible. For example, if you want smile improvements but can’t afford porcelain veneers, your dentist might suggest tooth bonding or Invisalign.

Dental Financing

_

If some or all of the services you want won’t be fully covered by your insurance policy, ask about dental financing

Talk to Your Dental Insurance Company

_

Before having extensive work done, consider approaching your insurance company with your quote for dental work to find out exactly how much will be covered. There may be areas you’re not sure of and your insurance company can confirm how much they will cover. This way, you won’t be left with any unpleasant surprises.

Invest in Your Smile

_

Yes, certain dental services aren’t covered by basic dental insurance, but the difference they could make to your smile and your confidence levels could result in an amazing return on your investment.
