Teeth that are naturally crooked, or have experienced fractures, decay, or wear and tear create problems for oral hygiene and eating. Emergency Dentists also reduce the effectiveness of your smile. These problems can often be overcome using porcelain crowns; once any needed procedures have been performed. Porcelain crowns are used to cover, or replace the entire external portion of the tooth, all the way to the gum-line. Porcelain crowns are a great choice for recreating the function and form of a damaged tooth. Enamel caps sculpted from porcelain offer the needed strength and the desired resilience of tooth enamel. Emergency Dentist always prefer your best 🙂

A Treatment of Choice

Porcelain Crowns are the treatment of choice for cases where tooth decay has invaded through the enamel, when the tooth has experienced extensive trauma and become damaged, as well as in cases of severe erosion. Furthermore, they are also implemented in a case where the habit of “teeth clenching” has compromised the integrity of teeth’s structure.
At Emergency Dentist @ Oakville, our team of cosmetic dentists has the experience and the expertise to sculpt dental porcelain to precisely replicate the look of your natural tooth enamel.

Understanding Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are most commonly used to replace the external portion of the tooth to re-establish the function of a tooth while simultaneously creates a more natural appearance for your tooth. The biggest advantage of using crowns is that they not only recreate the original structure of the teeth but can also be used to make them better — a great way for a flashing smile makeover!
Compared to a porcelain veneer, a crown is thicker, allowing for more robust dental procedures to be performed on teeth. The crown is normally secured by adding a light sensitive-resin as a base ( think cement) between the crown and the original tooth. The resin is hardened using a special curing light then permanently cementing the crown to the tooth.

There are two types of crowns, each used according to your oral needs.
Types of Crowns —Inlays and Onlays

_

Inlays and Onlays are two indirect restorative methods to help restore a healthy tooth in need of a large filling. Both can be used to add aesthetic appeal to your teeth by replacing old fillings. They are also helpful in further strengthening the structure of the tooth, and hence increase their durability and longevity of the treatment.
The primary difference between inlays and outlays is their placement. Inlays are placed inside the cusps of a tooth, whereas Onlays are placed over the cusps, and hence within the grooves. Our dentists perform a thorough dental exam prior to the process and determine which is needed in your situation.
Finally, the third form of crowning known as partial crowns, (often called as Onlays), is a type porcelain filling covering more than a single cusp.
Maintenance of a Porcelain Crown
Once the procedure is complete, and the porcelain crowns have completely cemented themselves to the tooth, you can go on using and caring for it like other teeth. They are easily maintained by regularly brushing and cleaning your teeth with nonabrasive toothpaste and floss.

Types of crowns:

ALL METAL

_

Fabricated entirely out of metal, and chosen when great occlusal strength is required and at the same time esthetics is not a concern.

ALL CERAMIC

_

It made entirely of dental ceramic, such as porcelain. They can be fabricated by hand from a dental technician or milled out of the ceramic block by the machine (CAD-CAM). Also in type, the newest crown is Lava Zirconia a very strong ceramic material with high stability, excellent natural esthetics, and the best biocompatibility. Are typically placed in those situations where the tooth’s aesthetics is essential like front teeth.

PORCELAIN-FUSED-TO-METAL

_

The most widespread dental restoration and we can think it as a hybrid between metal and ceramic counterparts. When they’re fabricated, porcelain is fused to an underlying metal substructure in a high-heat furnace from the dental technician

Dental Bridges

_

Dental Bridges, also called fixed partial dentures, are a popular type of non-removable prosthetic dental appliances used in the treatment of missing teeth. Dental bridges are so called because they literally bridge the gap between two teeth.
Typically, a bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth held in place by two dental crowns on either side. A bridge is placed by the dentist such as that the dental crown, or abutments, are secured to the natural teeth on either side of the gap while the artificial teeth, or the politics, fill in space.
Dental Bridges serve the aesthetic purpose of allowing you to show off your beautiful smile with the fear or shame of imperfect smile. The dental bridges are common, low-risk, affordable and time-tested treatment.
Dental bridges can be made out of a variety of different materials such as gold, silver amalgam, or other metal alloys, but for aesthetic considerations, bridges made from all porcelain or porcelain fused to metal are the most commonly used. Dental bridges are also made from a newer, advanced type of dental ceramic, Zirconia.
Types of Dental Bridges

There are 4 basic types of dental bridges

Traditional Bridge
Maryland Bonded Bridge
Cantilever Bridge
Implant Supported Bridge
Traditional Bridges
Traditional bridges are the most common types of bridges and are made from either porcelain fused to metal or ceramic. These bridges typically involve the preparation of two natural crowns on either side of the gap in a patient’s smile to support the bridge itself. The dentist re-shapes the teeth in order to make room for the bridge.

Maryland Bonded Bridge

_

Named after the researchers at the University of Maryland, the Maryland Bonded Bridges are resin bonded where the pontic tooth is fused to the metal bands or wings which are attached to the backs of the adjacent teeth. This type of bridge is popular because it involves the bare-minimum alteration of the surrounding teeth, only requiring micro-etching to create a strong bond between the bridge and the supporting teeth.

Cantilever Bridge

_

A Cantilever dental bridge is typically used when there are adjacent teeth on only one side of the missing tooth or teeth. Usually, they can replace only one single tooth. For the placement of a cantilever bridge, the crown of one adjacent tooth is prepared which supports the entire restoration. These types of bridges are normally not recommended for the replacement of the back teeth or the molars.

Implant Supported Bridges

_

A relatively newer alternative to traditional bridges, where natural tooth structure was reduced in the preparation and placement of bridges, are the Implant-Supported Bridges. A dental implant is a titanium post which is surgically placed into the alveolar bone of the jaw. Later on, the dentist places a custom-fabricated crown restoration directly on top of the implant core. These types of bridges are commonly used when there are no adjacent teeth present to act as anchors for the traditional dental bridge.
No matter what the type of bridge a patient receives, dental bridge restorations have significant practical benefits. The dentists at White Lily Dental are experts in the placement of dental bridges. Thanks to their expertise and experience in combination with the use of advanced dental technological techniques, the bridges placed not only restore complete dental functionality and oral health; they are also virtually indistinguishable from the patient’s natural dentition.
